This is a new sound-pak for CFS2! It represents the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk/Kittyhawk with an Allison V-1710-39 gear-driven supercharged engine. There is no shortage of great P-40s for this game. I thought it was a shame that these fine models and paints were without the appropriate GROWL. Most, if not all, that I have D/L alias the P-38 Lightning sound. And with good reason; it uses practically the same engine/s. Except the P-40 has only ONE! I used the original stock P-38 sounds/wavs by Barry Dowsett(MS) as my starting point. For the in-cockpit sounds, I remastered them in 22Hz, 8 bit stereo. Then cross panned them at 11 and 1 o'clock in the stereo spectrum. I also added a special secret ingredient as white noise to throw the rumble of the exhaust firing. Which is missing from the P-38 sound(because it is turbocharged). This, too, was panned, only this time wide, at 9 and 3 o'clock. Finally, I normalized them to maximum peak volume, around 0.0 to -0.3 db. The total effect being; sitting behind this magnificent powerplant. It's loud, grumbly and in-yer-face! For the external sounds I just resampled to 22Hz, 8 bit, mono.

As a side note: I originally had this sound-pak at 16 bit, and it was a whopping 10MB ZIPPED!! I took them down to 8 bit and it cut the size by more than half! The loss in quality is barely audible. If anything, the sounds became a little bit(hee, hee) more "noisy".

Special features: Longer ignition sound with a backfire-that starts slightly left of center then moves(quickly) full right! The Shutdown sound is extended, as well, with some slight spits and sputters before winding down to a rest (I was inspired by Jorgen Unschuld's start and shut sounds for Shingeru Tanaka's FS2000 Mosquito). The gear sounds match the way both Joe Amodea's and Bruno Duffort's P-40's undercarriage raise and lower. Starboard slightly first. Stereo panned wide.

I used the stock hellcat sound.cfg and replaced it's call for hcsounds with my p40sounds. Some stock sounds are still referenced, such as wingscrape, roll, touch, wind and so on.

These sounds are FREEWARE. They should not be bought or sold. Fun and total immersion is the ONLY PROFIT to be gained from them. Thanks, enjoy!!! :o)

INSTALLATION:
Unzip into P-40 Sound folder of choice. Click yes to overwrite when prompted. As always, make backups prior to install.

Stay tuned, I just might remix this sound-pak for the P-39 Aircobra. Panning the sound behind the cockpit, while leaving the prop sound straight in front! I have some re-paints promised first, though.
